De New Holland Foundation (NHF), gevestigd te Amsterdam, heeft tot doel onderzoek naar, en behoud van, Nederlands erfgoed overzee te stimuleren. De stichting streeft ernaar op deze manier culturen te verbinden en onderling begrip te verbeteren. Per 1 september 2024 (in overleg is een andere startdatum mogelijk) biedt de NHF in combinatie met het Nationaal Archief (NA) en het New Netherland Institute (NNI), gevestigd te Albany, New York, een stageplek voor MA-studenten aan voor vier tot vijf maanden. Wat houdt de stage in?
Afhankelijk van je interesses word je gekoppeld aan één van de projecten waar de NHF mee bezig is. Je zou aan de slag kunnen gaan bij onderzoek naar de rol van de Nederlandse Kerk in Nieuw-Nederland, bijdragen leveren aan de Atlas of Mutual Heritage, of je focussen op de Nederlandse slavenhandel in Nieuw-Amsterdam/New York. Afhankelijk van het project is er een stagevergoeding beschikbaar en bestaat er de unieke mogelijkheid om naar Albany en/of New York te gaan voor onderzoek, waar je onder begeleiding van historicus Deborah Hamer (NNI) in verschillende archieven in New York kan werken. Kort gezegd is er veel mogelijk en is de NHF zeer flexibel, waardoor in overleg met de stagiair een passende stage wordt gecreëerd. Mocht je vragen hebben of een specifieke wens of idee, schroom vooral niet om contact op te nemen zodat we samen kunnen kijken naar de mogelijkheden.
De eerste maanden doe je onderzoek in Nederland onder de begeleiding van stagebegeleiders drs. Oscar Hefting, dr. Jaap Jacobs (beiden NHF) en drs. Johan van Langen (NA), voornamelijk in het Nationaal Archief. Op vrijdagen vindt overleg plaats op het NHF in Amsterdam. Naast het onderzoeksproject helpt de NHF je ook bij het opbouwen van een netwerk dat goed van pas kan komen na je studie.
Wie zoeken we?
Een enthousiaste MA-student Geschiedenis, of aanpalende studies, die zich graag verder wil ontwikkelen binnen het vakgebied en beschikbaar is per september 2024. Een goede beheersing van het Nederlands en Engels, in woord en geschrift, is een vereiste.

The New Holland Foundation (NHF), based in Amsterdam, aims to promote research on, and preservation of, Dutch heritage overseas. The foundation strives to connect cultures and enhance mutual understanding. Starting September 1, 2024 (an alternative start date may be considered upon agreement), the NHF, in collaboration with the National Archives (NA) and the New Netherland Institute (NNI) located in Albany, New York, offers an internship opportunity for MA students for a period of four to five months.
What does the internship involve?
Depending on your interests, you will be assigned to one of the projects that NHF is involved in. You could, for example, participate in research on the role of the Dutch Church in New Netherland, contribute to the Atlas of Mutual Heritage, or focus on the Dutch slave trade in New Amsterdam/New York. Depending on the project, there is an internship allowance available, and there is potentially a unique opportunity to travel to Albany and/or New York for research, where, under the guidance of historian Deborah Hamer (NNI), you can work in various archives in New York. In short, there are many possibilities, and NHF is very flexible, allowing for the creation of a suitable internship in consultation with the intern. Who are we looking for?
